The 585 Band was the vehicle, cut for Toshiba's PRO-USE audiophile line, and the arrangements are as sharp as the fidelity suggests: horn stabs, live bass, strings used like a rhythm instrument. Sexy Bus Stop turns up here, along with a reading of Ain't Nobody Straight In L.A. Ten tracks, and the first time the album has been officially reissued.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0589/2866/0689/files/kyohei-tsutsumi-his-585-band-hit-machine-vinyl-lp-lawson-entertainment-good-taste-records-9256458.webp?v=1790151605
kenny-claiborne-and-the-armed-gang-the-armed-gang-vinyl-lp
Kenny Claiborne and The Armed Gang - The Armed Gang Vinyl LP

An Italo boogie holy grail, and one of the odder origin stories in the genre. Armed Gang came together in Vicenza around producer Maurizio "Sangy" Sangineto of Firefly, with keyboard player Flavio Botta and three American vocalists, Kenny Claiborne, Joe Beach and James Otis White Jr, who were stationed in Italy with the army at the time. Their only album sidestepped both the British synth-pop wave and the Nile Rodgers template that dominated Italian disco, aiming instead at the street funk and boogie coming out of the States. The New York Disco Orchestra first issued it in 1978 as a promo in a blank sleeve on their own Artemis label, and copies are close to unfindable; later pressings surfaced in Belgium and Japan under a different title. Mixed by Joaquin J. Lopes and featuring brothers John and Rocco Giamundo, it is mostly instrumental, built on string and keyboard arrangements lavish enough to sit next to the Love Unlimited Orchestra, with the Vako Orchestron on one track and bursts of fuzzed electric guitar where you least expect them.
