Sitar, fuzz guitar, hand percussion and soft, ethereal vocals drift between gentle folk and heavy, rolling jams, so the record can feel light as air one minute and heavy as earth the next. Their sound pulls from classical Indian music, Krautrock, traditional folk and 70s rock, with improvisation at its core. "Green Sugar" and "Kogarashi" make a perfect entry point. The band chose him on purpose, wanting someone from a wildly different background to challenge their idea of what psychedelic music could be. Both sides of the group are still here, the attentive folk and the wild-eyed rocking, but sharper and more defined. Shaped by months on the road together, the record keeps shifting its sonic panorama, from the bright pulse of "Dripping Sun" to the playful "Nazo Nazo." A beautiful, restless trip worth taking.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0589/2866/0689/products/kikagaku-moyo-masana-temples-vinyl-lp-606825444120-anti-good-taste-records-506646.jpg?v=1690207199
kikagaku-moyo-kumoyo-island-vinyl-lp
Kikagaku Moyo - Kumoyo Island Vinyl LP

"In many ways Kumoyo Island represents the culmination of a journey for Kikagaku Moyo. While their decade-long career can be summarized as a series of kaleidoscopic explorations through lands and dimensions far and near, there's a strong intention in each of their works to take the listener to a particular place, however real or abstract they may be. In that sense, the title and cover art for the band's fifth and final album draws you into a magical mass of land surrounded by water-but the couch suggests that Kumoyo Island may not be a fleeting stop, but rather a place of respite, where one could pause and take it all in.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0589/2866/0689/products/kikagaku-moyo-kumoyo-island-vinyl-lp-9501962371494-anti-good-taste-records-654970.jpg?v=1690207199
kikagaku-moyo-kikagaku-moyo-self-titledindie-exclusive-vinyl-lp
Kikagaku Moyo - Kikagaku Moyo (self-titled)(Indie Exclusive) Vinyl LP
Kikagaku Moyo's debut album exerts an elemental power. Enlivening their sound with sitars, percussive drums, theremins, wind instruments and ethereal vocals, the band manages to sound powerfully spacious and lazily serene all at once. Their songs can be light as air, or heavy as earth. Many evolve out of intense experiences of engagement with the natural world. The album's first track, "Can You Imagine Nothing?" was written over a night spent jamming on a suspended footbridge in remote mountains. As the song progressed the bridge began to sway, making band members feel as though they were floating weightless in midair.

Kikagaku Moyo started in the summer of 2012 busking on the streets of Tokyo. Though the band started as a free musiccollective, it quickly evolved into a tight group of multi-instrumentalists. Kikagaku Moyo call their sound psychedelicic because it encompasses a broad spectrum of influence. Their music incorporates elements of classical Indian music, Krautrock, Traditional Folk, and 70s Rock. Most importantly their music is about freedom of the mind and body and building a bridge between the supernatural and the present. Improvisation is a key element to their sound.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0589/2866/0689/products/kikagaku-moyo-kikagaku-moyo-self-titledindie-exclusive-vinyl-lp-606825444007-guruguru-brain-good-taste-records-313440.jpg?v=1690207131
kikagaku-moyo-forest-of-lost-children-indie-exclusive-vinyl-lp
Kikagaku Moyo - Forest of Lost Children (Indie Exclusive) Vinyl LP

Forest of Lost Children is a 2014 album from Kikagaku Moyo, the Tokyo collective formed in 2012 by drummer Go Kurosawa and guitarist Tomo Katsurada. Bassist Kotsuguy, guitarist Akira and Ryu Kurosawa, who had studied sitar in India, rounded out the five-piece. Delicate melodies and soft vocal harmonies sit right up against fuzzed-out sitar riffs and walls of feedback, so the record moves from tender to explosive and back without ever losing its human touch.
