King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard on Vinyl: Where to Start in a Catalog This Deep

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard formed in Melbourne in 2010 and have spent every year since making the idea of a discography look quaint. Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood and Michael Cavanagh started out on surf and garage rock released through their own Flightless label. In 2017 they promised five studio albums inside one calendar year and delivered all five. In 2022 they did it again.

The arc is genuinely strange laid out end to end. A 2015 detour into acoustic instruments. A 2016 album built so its last track loops back into its first. A microtonal trilogy played on custom instruments built around 24-tone tuning. A hard left into thrash metal in 2019, long-form jam records, a modular synth album, an orchestral one in 2025. They have run their own labels the whole way, Flightless, then KGLW, then p(doom) from 2024, and they release their own concerts through a sanctioned bootlegger program.

That last part is why a King Gizzard shelf looks different from anyone else's. The bootlegger releases are real records, pressed by independent labels with the band's blessing, and some of the strangest objects in the catalog live there.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Paper Mache Dream Balloon Vinyl LP

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Paper Mache Dream Balloon Vinyl LP album cover

Released November 13, 2015, Paper Mache Dream Balloon uses only acoustic instruments and was recorded on Mackenzie's parents' farm in rural Victoria: short unconnected songs, flute and clarinet where the fuzz pedals usually go, the gentlest thing in the catalog by a wide margin. It was also their first album issued in the United States through ATO. The deluxe pressing is the other copy on the wall.

Why it's worth purchasing:

  • Fully acoustic, cut on a farm in rural Victoria
  • The easiest door into a catalog that can look intimidating
  • Their first American release, via ATO

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity (Alien Warp Drive Deluxe Edition) Vinyl LP

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity (Alien Warp Drive Deluxe Edition) Vinyl LP album cover

The one that pulled them out of the psych underground. Out worldwide April 29, 2016, Nonagon Infinity is nine songs stitched together by shared motifs so each flows into the next and the closer runs straight back into the opener. Mackenzie called it a never-ending album, and on a turntable that is nearly literal. This is the Alien Warp Drive deluxe edition.

Why it's worth purchasing:

  • Nine tracks that loop seamlessly back to the start
  • The album that made them a headline act
  • Alien Warp Drive deluxe edition packaging

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Teenage Gizzard (Picture Disc) Vinyl LP

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Teenage Gizzard (Picture Disc) Vinyl LP album cover

Teenage Gizzard collects the earliest known recordings the band made, cut in 2010 and 2011: their first two singles, the four songs from the Anglesea EP, and a previously unreleased track called "Life Is Cool." Ten songs, under half an hour, all reverb and surf rock. Released December 24, 2020, it is what finally made this material available at all. There is also a Fuzz Club blue pressing.

Why it's worth purchasing:

  • The 2010 and 2011 recordings, including the full Anglesea EP
  • Ten tracks of pure surf and garage before the concept records
  • Picture disc, with a blue Fuzz Club edition also on the shelf

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Butterfly 3001 (Indie Exclusive 180g Die-Cut) Vinyl LP

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Butterfly 3001 (Indie Exclusive 180g Die-Cut) Vinyl LP album cover

Butterfly 3000 was the 2021 album built around modular synthesizer loops. Butterfly 3001, out January 21, 2022, hands those ten songs to other producers and comes back with twenty-one remixes, which is a reasonable argument that the source material was more elastic than it sounded. The indie exclusive is 180g with a die-cut jacket. DJ Shadow's take on "Black Hot Soup" also sits here on its own 12 inch.

Why it's worth purchasing:

  • Twenty-one remixes of the modular synth album
  • 180g indie exclusive with a die-cut jacket
  • Pairs with the standalone DJ Shadow remix 12 inch

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Petrodragonic Apocalypse; or Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth Vinyl LP

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Petrodragonic Apocalypse; or Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth Vinyl LP album cover

Released June 16, 2023, PetroDragonic Apocalypse is the full thrash metal record their 2019 album Infest the Rats' Nest only started. Harwood described it as one half of a yin and yang pair, the other being the synth-leaning The Silver Cord, and the two sound nothing alike on purpose. "Gila Monster" and "Dragon" led it out. The earlier thrash album is here as a live document: the Fuzz Club bootleg of Infest the Rats' Nest played live, on red vinyl.

Why it's worth purchasing:

  • Their fully committed thrash metal album, from June 2023
  • Designed as the counterweight to The Silver Cord
  • Sits beside the live Infest the Rats' Nest bootleg

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard - Italian Feast (Deluxe Edition, Italian Feast Pizza & Spaghetti + Meatballs Picture Disc) Vinyl Lp

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard - Italian Feast (Deluxe Edition, Italian Feast Pizza & Spaghetti + Meatballs Picture Disc) Vinyl Lp album cover

The most popular King Gizzard record at our counter. Italian Feast captures their August 2, 2025 show at Forest Hills Stadium and presses it as a full-color picture disc: side A a pepperoni pizza, side B a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, with a flexi for the Caesar salad and garlic bread and a custom napkin in the package. Nine songs, out through Having Fun Records in the sanctioned Bootlegger Series. For another oddly shaped object, Live At Bonnaroo '22 is cut as an orange buzzsaw.

Why it's worth purchasing:

  • The Forest Hills Stadium set from August 2, 2025
  • Pizza and spaghetti picture disc, plus a flexi and a napkin
  • The single most popular Gizzard title in the shop

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Skull X-Ray (Deluxe Edition) (X-Ray Picture Disc) Vinyl LP

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Skull X-Ray (Deluxe Edition) (X-Ray Picture Disc) Vinyl LP album cover

The newest entry in the Bootlegger Series, arriving September 25, 2026 on Having Fun Records. Skull X-Ray takes its concept from Soviet-era bone music, the underground records pressed onto discarded medical x-rays, and renders the disc as a translucent one-sided x-ray of a human skull with a nail through the temple. The seven songs come from the band's own Field of Vision festival, held at Meadow Creek in Buena Vista, Colorado across three nights in August 2025.

Why it's worth purchasing:

  • One-sided translucent x-ray picture disc of a human skull
  • Seven songs from their own Field of Vision festival, August 2025
  • Bone music history turned into a playable object

If You Like King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

Five artists on our shelves who share some part of what this band does.

  • Tame Impala: the other great Australian psych export, working the same decade from the studio-craft side instead of the live-band side.
  • Ty Segall: comparable output rate, comparable refusal to make the same record twice, and Chrome just landed on the wall.
  • Psychedelic Porn Crumpets: Perth, relentless, and the closest thing to a sibling band Gizzard has.
  • Unknown Mortal Orchestra: the melodic, lo-fi corner of the same map, for the psych without the velocity.
  • Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats: where the heavier Gizzard records point, all doom riffs and sweet harmony.

Where to Go From Here

Starting cold, Nonagon Infinity converts people and Paper Mache Dream Balloon surprises them. After that the catalog branches by mood, not chronology. On the archival side we also have From Demos to Demons, fourteen tracks pulled from their Demo Sessions vaults, Made in Timeland, which arrived alongside their three-hour Melbourne marathon show in March 2022, and Laminated Denim on the Lucky Rainbow edition, one of three albums they put out in October 2022. The microtonal trilogy and the 2025 orchestral album Phantom Island are not on our shelves. For neighbors, the Psych Rock and Rock collections are where the rest of this world lives.

Everything we have by them sits in one place: browse the full King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard collection.

It's all in GOOD TASTE.
