For Fans Of

Commonly regarded as one of the first concept albums in soul, this dark 1973 masterpiece combines the lush orchestral arrangements of Isaac Hayes collaborator Dale Warren with blaxploitation-style funk grooves. Its haunting sound rocketed it to cult-classic status among DJs and producers, sampled for tracks by Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Digable Planets, Dr. Dre, and many more. This 180-gram reissue was cut at Ardent on the original Stax lathe and pressed in Memphis, housed in an old-school tip-on jacket with new liner notes by Stax historian Rob Bowman.
