Terry Callier was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who wove together jazz, soul, and folk into a sound entirely his own. Released in 1972 on Chess subsidiary Cadet, What Color Is Love pairs the Chicago soul of Curtis Mayfield and Jerry Butler with lush, ambitious arrangements from Charles Stepney, all carried by Callier's creamy, soulful tenor. Long treasured by crate diggers and a touchstone for later generations of soul and folk artists, it remains his most beloved record. Callier stepped away from music for a stretch before a celebrated late-career revival, and passed away in 2012. This is the Music on Vinyl reissue.
