Psycho Tropical Berlin is the debut album from La Femme, the Biarritz-born band who turned surf guitar, French cold wave and yé-yé pop into something all their own. Sacha Got and Marlon Magnée started out recording songs on GarageBand before building a rotating cast of singers and players in Paris, and that restless energy runs through the record. "Sur la planche" is made for whistling on a surfboard, while elsewhere the band lean into Kraftwerk-style synths and the spiky charm of Elli et Jacno. Rock, pop and rococo Bauhaus all at once, on two LPs with printed inner sleeves.
