There is a warmth and exuberance across the album, along with the muscular sound you can only get at a live show, and for many of these tracks these recordings could well be the defining versions, made possible by the live engineering of Xandy Whitesel and performances from bandmates Jenn Wasner, Sean Carey, Michael Lewis, Matthew McCaughan, and Andrew Fitzpatrick. With it, Vernon begins a new Bon Iver archival series modeled after Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series and the Neil Young Archives, presenting the many eras and facets of the band across live shows, demos, and unreleased recordings.
