Back to Oakland was the fourth album by Bay Area band Tower of Power, released in spring 1974. Following their self-titled gold album, the band delivered what many critics consider an even stronger record: tougher, funkier, better-produced cuts, more confident vocals from Lenny Williams, the gorgeous ballad "Time Will Tell," and the rousing "Don't Change Horses (In the Middle of a Stream)." The Tower of Power horn section reaffirmed its reputation across soul and pop circles, and Modern Drummer later named the album one of the most important recordings for drummers to study. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing as part of the Rhino Reserve audiophile series.
