Emerging in the early 1980s from the small town of Kwekwe, Zig-Zag Band became one of Zimbabwe's most distinctive musical voices, revolutionizing the scene with a bold new sound they called Chigiyo: a vibrant fusion of reggae, traditional rhythms, brass arrangements, and mbira-inspired guitar. With intricate guitar lines, infectious dance rhythms, and raw, soulful Shona vocals, they pushed past genre boundaries while staying fiercely independent. Though nearly all of the original members have passed, founding member Gilbert Zvamaida, now based in the US and performing with Thomas Mapfumo's Blacks Unlimited, carries the torch. This Analog Africa compilation, housed in a limited 3-color screen-printed cover with a download voucher, returns a vibrant, underappreciated catalog to a new generation.
