Led by saxophonist and organist Leon Michels with producer Jeff Silverman, El Michels Affair blends vintage soundtrack music, early reggae, and raw analog soul into what the group calls Cinematic Soul. Nearly two decades on, it remains a landmark of instrumental hip-hop and a defining release in the Fat Beats catalog. Stripped down and intentional, this anniversary cassette edition lets the imagery do the talking: housed in a clear case with an OBI strip, the cassette features the album's iconic Chinese opera mask artwork printed full bleed on one side and a black-and-white band photo on the other.
