Future Development is Del the Funky Homosapien's third album and, following his departure from Elektra, his first on his own independent label, Hieroglyphics Imperium. Originally released on cassette in 1997 and later reissued in 2002, it leaned largely on in-house production from Del along with Hiero crew members A-Plus, Opio, and Toure, with a lone guest verse from Casual on Checking Out the Rivalry. Sonically it bridges the funk of Del's debut with the darker, more futuristic textures of No Need for Alarm, while his rapid-fire wordplay sharpens its focus on life in Oakland and hip-hop culture. A significant and underappreciated chapter in his evolution.
