Safe + Sound is DJ Quik's 1995 album, a sun-scorched slice of Los Angeles that pairs his laid-back G-funk with the live-band instincts of an old-school P-Funk producer. A gifted beatmaker who has crafted records for the likes of Tupac, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, Quik was always quirkier than his gangsta rap peers, and here the boasts, jokes and good times sit right next to his beefs and his trials. Original vinyl copies are scarce, so Be With's reissue is the way in, complete with "Tanqueray," the hidden track from the original CD, and a recreation of the promo-style plain black jacket.
