Arriving four years after Hard to Earn, Moment of Truth found Gang Starr returning with a sharper, updated take on their established jazz-tinged hip-hop. DJ Premier's beats are lean and hard, and Guru sounds reflective and focused, rapping about loyalty, faith, and staying true through tough times. The lead single "You Know My Steez" sits alongside the title track, "Above the Clouds" with Inspectah Deck, and "Royalty," with guests including M.O.P., Krumb Snatcha, and Scarface. Reissued as part of UMe's Respect the Classics campaign, this triple LP pressing is a must for any classic hip-hop shelf.
