Ever since Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth sampled Ernie Hines' anthemic "Our Generation" on their 1992 hit "Straighten It Out" (later covered by John Legend and The Roots in 2010), 1972's Electrified has been one of the most collectible soul releases of its era. "Our Generation" is justly famous, a masterpiece of socially conscious, gospel-inflected '70s soul, but the rest of the record holds to that high standard, with "Sugar Plum (Gimme Some)," "Your Love (Is All I Need)," and the original version of The Temprees' "Explain It to Her Mama" among the highlights. Exquisite production comes from the We Produce label's Jo Bridges and Tom Nixon, cut for this all-analog pressing from the original two-track master tape.
