Born and raised in Philadelphia, Karin Jones took her first musical steps singing in church before becoming an accomplished pianist, percussionist, and drummer. She sang backing vocals for Marvin Gaye on Got to Give It Up and his 1977 London tour, did session work for Jobete, and was briefly managed by Teddy Pendergrass before recording Under the Influence of Love in 1980. Shelved for two years, it finally arrived in 1982, arranged by Dunn Pearson Jr. and Bruce Hawes and filled with heartfelt modern soul, deep disco, and boogie-funk, including a rare duet with Eddie Levert of The O'Jays. It includes "Ready, Ready Love," one of the biggest songs of the London steppers scene. Tidal Waves Music presents the first official vinyl reissue, a deluxe 180-gram white vinyl edition with obi strip and original artwork.
