Closer is Joy Division's second and final studio album, released in 1980 two months after the death of singer Ian Curtis. Recorded with producer Martin Hannett, it pushes the Manchester band's sound into colder, more spacious territory, from the pounding "Atrocity Exhibition" and the synth-driven "Isolation" to "Heart and Soul," "Twenty Four Hours," and the elegiac closer "Decades." Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris had long since transcended their punk roots, and after Curtis's death the remaining members carried on as New Order. This 180g audiophile repress keeps the original Peter Saville designed packaging.
