In popular clubs like La Main Bleue in Montreuil, an enthusiastic audience discovered this post-disco wave, influenced as much by French pop as by The Sugarhill Gang or Kurtis Blow. By 1984 the genre was already merging into rap, breakdance, Italo, and house, but it remains a refreshing testimony to the intermingling of pop and underground cultures, full of pioneering synthetic grooves and matchless basslines.
