House in the Tall Grass is the 2016 album from Kikagaku Moyo, the Tokyo psychedelic band that started out busking on city streets in 2012 and grew into a tight crew of multi-instrumentalists. Sitar, fuzz guitar, hand percussion and soft, ethereal vocals drift between gentle folk and heavy, rolling jams, so the record can feel light as air one minute and heavy as earth the next. Their sound pulls from classical Indian music, Krautrock, traditional folk and 70s rock, with improvisation at its core. "Green Sugar" and "Kogarashi" make a perfect entry point. Spacious, serene and quietly powerful.
