Album Facts
Madonna - Erotica (Import White Color) Vinyl LP
Madonna's coldest, best-aged record, on two white discs
- The 1992 album featuring 'Deeper and Deeper', 'Rain' and 'Bad Girl'
- Produced largely with Shep Pettibone, built on house and dub rhythms
- Thirteen tracks across two white 140g discs, imported Italian pressing
Erotica is the Madonna record that cost her the most and has aged the best. Working mainly with Shep Pettibone, she traded the gloss of the eighties for cold house beats, dub-leaning bass and a half-spoken delivery that keeps the listener at arm's length. The provocations got the headlines, but the album's weight sits elsewhere: 'Rain' and 'Bad Girl' are among her finest ballads, and 'In This Life' is a plain, grieving song about friends lost to AIDS. 'Deeper and Deeper' and a reworked 'Fever' keep the floor moving. Two white 140g discs, Italian pressing.
