While Suicide's label pushed the duo toward synthetic disco, Vega pulled in a different direction, digging into the roots of his own sound: blues, rockabilly, early rock and roll, and an enduring love for Elvis. The result is fiercely singular and minimalist, anchored by the swaggering anthem "Jukebox Babe," a hit in France, alongside the bluesy "Kung Foo Cowboy" and the haunted mutant-rockabilly of "Bye Bye Bayou," later covered by LCD Soundsystem. Now remastered by Josh Bonati from the original tapes, this Sacred Bones reissue preserves the raw intensity of a record that translates early rock and roll through an art-punk filter. A cult masterpiece and a declaration of independence from one of New York's most uncompromising artists. This is the magenta color edition.
