After her debut, she brought in Nile Rodgers of Chic to produce, and his disco-funk instincts, with former Chic bandmates Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson playing bass and drums, gave the album its crisp, danceable snap. Madonna co-wrote much of it, and the results, from "Material Girl" to the title track, became defining moments of 80s pop.
