Rooted firmly in gospel, blues and the old-time Dixieland jazz of New Orleans, Blues & Roots is one of Charles Mingus' essential statements, recorded for Atlantic in 1959 and released in 1960. The bassist and composer leads a roaring, shouting ensemble with Jackie McLean, John Handy, Booker Ervin, Jimmy Knepper and Horace Parlan through Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting, Moanin' and E's Flat Ah's Flat Too. Newly repackaged in Rhino's premium audiophile line, Rhino Reserve, it is cut from the original mono tapes by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab and pressed on 180g vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing.
