Jan Jelinek - Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records Vinyl LP
Constructed entirely out of samples from old jazz records
- Constructed entirely from samples lifted off old jazz records
- A cornerstone of early-2000s minimal and microhouse electronic music
- 2017 double LP reissue on Jelinek's own Faitiche imprint
Jan Jelinek built Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records entirely out of samples lifted from old jazz records, then extracted the grooves at a molecular level and rebuilt them as stripped-down, minimal techno. Released in 2001, it stood apart from the clicks-and-cuts minimalism of its moment by chasing harmony and warmth rather than austerity, and it holds up as functional music in the best sense, a record to work to, drift to, or lose the plot inside entirely. "Rock in the Video Age" and "Tendency" anchor it, but it plays best start to finish. This 2017 double LP reissue comes from Jelinek's own Faitiche imprint.
