In 1995 Mad Professor took Massive Attack's Protection into his studio and dissolved it. Bass lines stretch and wobble, reverb swallows whole verses, and Tracey Thorn and Horace Andy surface only as ghosts of themselves. What comes back is less a remix album than a second reading of the same record, slower and stranger and built for the last hour of the night. It remains one of the great meetings of British dub and Bristol trip-hop, and it plays beautifully back to back with the original Protection. Pressed on 180g vinyl.
