Jar of Flies is Alice in Chains' 1994 EP for Columbia, and it shows a completely different side of the band. They walked into Seattle's London Bridge Studio in September 1993 with no songs written, just to test the chemistry, and came out a week later with seven hushed, acoustic-leaning tracks. The heaviness is still there, but it lives in the mood rather than the volume: "Nutshell" is devastating, "I Stay Away" adds strings to the gloom, "No Excuses" is almost breezy, and "Don't Follow" is a quiet blues confession. This 30th Anniversary edition brings the EP back to vinyl.
