Roseland NYC Live captures Portishead at their most dramatic. In 1997 the Bristol trio took their trip-hop to New York's Roseland Ballroom backed by a full orchestra, and the result, released in 1998, turns the band's smoky, sample-built songs into something huge and cinematic. Beth Gibbons sounds devastating in the room, Geoff Barrow's scratches cut through the strings, and Adrian Utley's guitar gives it all a spaghetti-western edge. "Humming," "Glory Box," "Sour Times" and a towering "Roads" are the moments people remember. One of the great live records of the 90s, pressed here on red vinyl.
