Full Moon Fever is Tom Petty's 1989 solo debut, made mostly away from the Heartbreakers with Jeff Lynne co-producing alongside Petty and Mike Campbell. Lynne's crisp, chiming production suited Petty perfectly, and fellow Traveling Wilburys George Harrison and Roy Orbison drop in along the way. The songs are simply great: "Free Fallin'," "I Won't Back Down" and "Runnin' Down a Dream" became classic-rock radio staples, "Yer So Bad" is wry and bouncy, and a cover of the Byrds' "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better" wears his influences proudly. A warm, sunny, near-perfect record.
