William DeVaughn - Be Thankful For What You Got Vinyl LP
One of the most widely known soul releases makes us thankful for it
- Vinyl reissue of William DeVaughn's 1974 debut Be Thankful For What You Got
- Philly soul cornerstone built on the endlessly sampled title track
- Smooth, meditative grooves recorded with the MFSB session players
Philadelphia soul at its most recognizable. Originally released on Wes Farrell's Roxbury and Chelsea labels, William DeVaughn's 1974 masterpiece was recorded at Sigma Sound Studios with a who's who of that scene, from backing band MFSB to John Davis. The cream of Philadelphia International's musicians gives it lush orchestral arrangements and soaring strings. DeVaughn wrote "A Cadillac Don't Come Easy," later rewritten as the title track in 1972, addressing inner-city sensitivities. Also includes "Blood Is Thicker Than Water," "Give The Little Man A Great Big Hand," and "Kiss And Make Up." Socially conscious and semi-religious lyrics that define soul music.
