Released in 1960 on Argo, the Chess Records subsidiary, At Last! is Etta James's debut album and an enduring landmark of soul, blues and jazz, the record that turned the powerhouse singer into a star. Backed by Riley Hampton's lush orchestral arrangements, her voice moves from raw blues to aching tenderness across the title track, "All I Could Do Was Cry," "Trust in Me" and "A Sunday Kind of Love." The strings swoon, the band swings, and Etta owns every bar. Timeless, essential listening for any collection, and a perfect place to start with one of soul's great voices.
