In 1971 several dozen African American soul, jazz, and gospel artists traveled from New York City to Ghana to take part in Soul to Soul, a 13-hour concert celebrating 14 years of Ghanaian independence. For most it was their first trip to Africa, a journey about roots, ancestry, history, and discovery. Directed by Academy Award winner Denis Sanders, the concert film now returns restored and digitally remastered. The lineup captures its players at the peak of their powers, from the Ike & Tina Turner Revue and Wilson Pickett to the Staple Singers, Les McCann & Eddie Harris, and Santana with guest percussionist Willie Bobo.
