Album Facts
Tim Maia - Tim Maia (self-titled) Vinyl LP
Crown jewel in Brazilian grooves
- Reissue of foundational Brazilian soul album from Tim Maia
- Released on Vampisoul, known for excellent international soul reissues
- Essential entry for Brazilian funk and soul vinyl collectors
Tim Maia's self-titled 1973 album, originally released on Polydor Brazil, was the fourth in his run of self-titled records and is considered by many fans and critics to be the crown jewel. A larger-than-life Rio icon, Maia married American soul and funk with Brazilian samba and pop long before fusion was a buzzword, absorbing everything from Curtis Mayfield to Motown and making it unmistakably his own. The arrangements here are bigger and slicker without losing his raw spirit, from the opener "Réu Confesso" to the beloved "Gostava Tanto de Você" and the irresistible "O Balanço." Deep grooves, soaring strings, and magnetic vocals make it a front-to-back winner. This is the Vampisoul 180g reissue.
