Like Water for Chocolate is the 2000 breakthrough from Chicago rapper Common, the socially conscious, warmly soulful record that made him a star. Recorded at Electric Lady with the Soulquarians, it was executive produced by Questlove of The Roots, and much of the production comes from J Dilla, whose loose, swinging drums give the album its unmistakable feel. The Light is a tender love song built on a Bobby Caldwell sample, while Geto Heaven Part Two with D'Angelo, The 6th Sense and Thelonius showcase a rapper at his peak. A Soulquarians classic, reissued on double vinyl.
