Sublime's self-titled third album arrived in 1996 on Gasoline Alley and MCA, two months after frontman Bradley Nowell's death, and it became the record that made the Long Beach band legends. It is a sun-baked mix of ska, punk, reggae, dub, and hip-hop, produced largely by Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers.
"What I Got" and "Santeria" are the ones everybody knows, but "Wrong Way" and "Doin' Time," built on a Gershwin "Summertime" sample, show how loose and inventive the band could be. A cornerstone for any ska, punk, or 90s alt-rock shelf.
