Hiatus Kaiyote - Choose Your Weapon Vinyl LP
Neo-soul as a rhythmic puzzle, glowing in the dark
- Hiatus Kaiyote's 2015 second album, recorded in Melbourne
- Nai Palm leading a band that treats soul like a rhythmic puzzle
- Photoluminescent Brainfeeder pressing across two LPs
Choose Your Weapon is the 2015 second album from Melbourne's Hiatus Kaiyote, and it's the sound of a soul band treating every song like a rhythmic puzzle. Nai Palm's elastic voice leads a group that can turn from lush neo-soul to prog-flavored funk to jazz inside a single track, and the record keeps rewarding closer listening. "Breathing Underwater" and "Shaolin Monk Motherfunk" are standouts, and Kendrick Lamar later sampled "Atari" on DAMN. This Brainfeeder pressing spreads it across two LPs of photoluminescent vinyl.
