Album Facts
Jay-Z - The Black Album Vinyl LP
Jay's 'final' album, and the victory lap still holds up
- Roc-A-Fella vinyl pressing of Jay-Z's 2003 eighth album The Black Album
- Originally framed as Jay's retirement record, produced by Just Blaze, Kanye West, Timbaland, Rick Rubin, and 9th Wonder
- Includes 99 Problems, Encore, Dirt Off Your Shoulder, and Public Service Announcement
The Black Album was pitched as Jay-Z's farewell when Roc-A-Fella released it in 2003, and he treated it like one: a victory lap and a reckoning in the same breath. The producer list reads like a who's who, with Just Blaze, Kanye West, Timbaland, The Neptunes, Eminem and Rick Rubin all taking a turn. "99 Problems," "Encore," "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" and "Public Service Announcement" are the anthems, while "December 4th" and "Moment of Clarity" are as personal as he gets. The retirement didn't take, but the record holds up. Pressed across two LPs.
