Album Facts
Radiohead - Kid A Vinyl LP
Radiohead trade guitars for drum machines, and it works.
- XL Recordings 2xLP pressing of Radiohead's 2000 fourth album Kid A
- Art-rock pivot away from guitars toward electronics, strings and free-jazz horns
- Includes Everything in Its Right Place, The National Anthem, Idioteque and Optimistic
Kid A is the sound of Radiohead refusing to make OK Computer again. Released in 2000, their fourth album swapped guitar heroics for drum machines, Ondes Martenot, buried vocals and jazz horns, and it divided listeners before winning nearly all of them over. Everything in Its Right Place opens on a woozy keyboard loop, The National Anthem erupts into free-jazz brass, How to Disappear Completely floats on strings and Idioteque pulses like a broken rave. Optimistic and Morning Bell keep one foot in the band they used to be. A turn-of-the-millennium landmark, on 2xLP from XL Recordings.
