Donuts is the instrumental album from producer J Dilla, released on Stones Throw in 2006, just three days before his death. A 31-track suite of chopped, soulful, emotionally charged beats, much of it assembled from a hospital bed, it changed the way a generation of producers thought about sampling and sequencing. Tracks start and stop without warning, like someone spinning the dial on an imaginary radio station, and the whole thing plays as one long, loving goodbye. This pressing features the iconic donut shop cover art, a cornerstone for any hip-hop or beat collection.
