In 1978, producer Tony Sylvester of The Main Ingredient asked his friend Pepe Willie for studio musicians who could play fast and funky, and Willie brought in two young Minneapolis players: Andre Cymone and Prince Rogers Nelson. The session at New York's Sound Palace Studios produced Fast Freddie The Roller Disco King, a roller-rink disco-funk burner that became a sought-after gem once the planned Imperials album never materialized. The B-side, I Just Wanna Be Your Lovin' Man, comes straight from the 94 East sessions, deepening the Prince connection. This limited TK Disco reissue puts an essential piece of pre-fame Prince history back within reach.
