A Milan-born multi-instrumentalist of Venetian heritage, Alberto Baldan Bembo was a gifted vibraphonist, organist, pianist, arranger, and composer whose work bridged jazz, pop, and film music. He toured for years with the legendary Mina before going on to score films and earn a place alongside Italian library and soundtrack luminaries like Piero Umiliani and Alessandro Alessandroni. Io E Mara, originally released on CGD in 1969, is his debut: the soundtrack to a film that was never made, a concept album tracing 24 hours in the life of two young lovers. Told entirely through music, it unfolds as a continuous suite of ten tracks where cinematic lounge, bossa, and jazz mingle into a dreamlike atmosphere, complete with ethereal vocals from Mara and immersive sounds of waves, seagulls, and rain. The original pop-art cover comes from cult Italian illustrator Guido Crepax.
