Rasman Maxwell Udoh was one of the finest artists to emerge from the Nigerian music scene of the 80s and 90s, a true pioneer and one of the first Africans to sing authentic reggae. After learning his craft alongside his uncle in The Doves Rock Band, he broke through with Maxwell Udoh and His Masses Militia Band, won several awards, and served as chairman of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria. Survival of the Fittest treats the listener to six tracks rich with reggae, funk, soul, boogie, and disco, including "I Like It (Don't Stop)," later featured on Khruangbin's Late Night Tales. Tidal Waves Music presents the first-ever vinyl reissue, a deluxe 180-gram white vinyl edition with obi strip and original artwork, the first time these recordings have been released outside Africa.
