Can't Buy a Thrill is Steely Dan's 1972 debut, and the blueprint for everything Walter Becker and Donald Fagen would build: sly, literate songs dressed in jazz chords and airtight session playing. It already sounds like no one else, part pop record, part inside joke, and all craft.
"Do It Again" rides a Latin groove and an electric sitar solo, "Reelin' in the Years" delivers one of rock's great guitar breaks, and "Dirty Work," sung by David Palmer, is a soft-rock heartbreaker. "Kings" and "Midnite Cruiser" reward deeper listening. This 180g pressing was remastered by Bernie Grundman.
