Tonio Rubio's Rhythms is a heavyweight library breaks LP and the first release in Be With Records' partnership with the legendary French library label Tele Music. For this 50th anniversary reissue, Be With reproduced the classic Tele Music sleeve with a full-color insert of rare photographs, fresh liner notes, and memories of Tonio from Jean-Claude Vannier, Jean-Claude Petit, and Janko Nilovic. The opener "Latin Leitmotiv" stokes Latin fire with a killer montuno, while the gritty "Red Medium" drips with blaxploitation wah-wah and the proggy "Rock 73" rolls through nine minutes of electric jazz-fusion menace. The real highlight is the deep, hypnotic minimalist groove of "Bass in Action No. 1," a track that sounds like a hip-hop beat 20 years ahead of its time. Antonio Rubio Garcia got his start on double bass in jazz clubs before joining Johnny Hallyday's first backing band and playing on French chanson standards by Serge Gainsbourg and others.
