The sequel to Luaka Bop's hugely successful first Beleza Tropical, it captures a new generation of Brazilian artists who, rather than overturning the tropicalismo movement that preceded them, sought to build on it, absorbing ever more contemporary influences. Rap, sampling, psychedelia, new wave and no wave, funk and punk are routinely swallowed up and blended with the swing of samba, the massed drums of Bloco Afro, and the dance grooves of axe. As compiler David Byrne put it, the result is so full of life that the music fights the power.
