Heathen put Bowie back in a room with Tony Visconti for the first time in twenty years, and the reunion produced his most searching record since the seventies. Written and recorded largely before September 2001 but released after, it carries a mood of unease that listeners read into it immediately and Bowie never quite denied. "Slip Away" and "Everyone Says Hi" are among his warmest late songs, and covers of Neil Young and the Pixies land harder than they should. Newly remastered in 2025. Street date: July 24.
