Roy Ayers had been a straight-ahead jazz vibraphonist for a decade before he assembled Ubiquity and started building something warmer and looser. Everybody Loves the Sunshine, from May 1976, is where that shift lands: the title track rides a single held synth drone under a group vocal that sounds half asleep in the best way, and the rest moves through cosmic soul, rubbery disco and horn-driven funk. It has been sampled and covered so often that newcomers usually recognize it before they have heard it. This 47th anniversary reissue is pressed on limited yellow vinyl.
