Album Facts
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory (RSD Essential) Vinyl LP
Upright bass, two voices, and all the space in the world.
- Tribe's 1991 second album, pressed as a double LP
- Includes "Check the Rhime," "Jazz (We've Got)," and "Scenario"
- Features Ron Carter on "Verses from the Abstract"
The record where Tribe worked out what they were. Stripped back to upright bass, drums, and two voices that answer each other, The Low End Theory trades the bright collage of their debut for something darker and far more confident. Phife arrives fully formed here, and the Q-Tip and Phife exchanges on "Check the Rhime" and "Buggin' Out" set a template plenty of groups have tried to copy since. Ron Carter plays on "Verses from the Abstract." The whole thing is built on space rather than density, which is why it still sounds current. Pressed as a double LP.
