Adrian Rew spent 2013 and early 2014 walking casino floors across the Midwest with an Olympus LS-11 recorder hidden in his coat pocket, capturing the sound design built to hold players in what gamblers call the machine zone. Six untreated recordings, from Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland to Greektown and MotorCity in Detroit, blur slot chimes, payout tones and crowd murmur into shimmering, near-ambient washes, much of it gravitating to the key of C major the industry once standardized on. Originally two self-released CD-R volumes, both are now collected on a single cassette running more than 70 minutes, courtesy of London's Death Is Not The End.
