Akiko Yano was twenty and had never made a record when she talked Little Feat into backing her. They said yes, she flew from Tokyo to Los Angeles in March 1976, and the American side of Japanese Girl is the result: Lowell George and company at their loosest, with Funamachi-Uta Pt. 2 turning a festival song from her hometown of Aomori into slow funk. The Tokyo side pulls the other way, Haruomi Hosono and members of Moonriders working shinobue, koto and tsuzumi into pop songs. Tip-on sleeve, download card and the original four-page insert.
