Akira Ishikawa & Count Buffalo - Okinawa (Clear Color) Vinyl LP
Okinawan folk melody run through 1976 Afro-funk percussion.
- A 1976 Akira Ishikawa session with Count Buffalo for King Records
- Okinawan folk melody built on Afro-funk percussion and horns
- Japanese pressing on clear vinyl with the original artwork
Akira Ishikawa spent the 1970s dragging Japanese jazz toward the drum kit, and Okinawa is one of the hottest results. Cut in 1976 with Count Buffalo, it runs Okinawan folk melody through Afro-funk percussion and a rhythm section leaning hard on the four, horns stabbing over congas and a bassline that refuses to settle. It lands closer to the dancefloor than African Rock and stays more focused than the Bakishinba sessions, which is saying something. King Records presses it in Japan on clear vinyl with the original artwork.
