XXXXX is Arca's ninth album and her first full length since the KICK pentalogy closed in 2021. Five years went into painting and into learning to live with decisions that cannot be undone, and it shows: these sixteen tracks are darker, faster and more abrasive than anything in the KICK run. Ambient interludes like 'Throb' sit next to 'Syncope', which builds and then simply stops. The cover casts Arca as a biomechanical figure flanked by two owls, symbols of protection and the underworld, and the music lives in that same space between the human and the machine. Street date: December 11.
